What is 3D print post-processing?

Orbit3D finishes 3D prints in-house: support removal, sanding, priming, then gloss, matte, metallic or colour-matched painting — turning raw prints into showroom-ready pieces. Finishing is quoted per part alongside your print.

Why Finishing Matters

Nobody Remembers the Layer Lines on a Perfect Paint Job

Every 3D printing technology leaves its signature — FDM layer lines, SLA support points, MJF surface texture. Professional post-processing removes it: surfaces sanded and smoothed to eliminate imperfections, primed for adhesion and durability, then painted and sealed to specification.

Our finishing team handles everything from a single presentation model to full production batches — matte, gloss, metallic and custom textures, with colour matching to your brand, your sample or your imagination.

  • Matte, gloss, metallic & custom textures — tailored to the design's intent.
  • Colour matching to brand codes, physical samples or reference photos.
  • Protective coatings — polish, seal and UV-protect for parts that live in the real world.

FAQ

Painting & Post-Processing — Common Questions

Can you finish parts you didn't print?

Yes — we post-process supplied FDM, SLA and MJF parts as well as our own. Send photos of the parts and the target finish and we'll quote it.

Can FDM layer lines really be removed completely?

Yes. Progressive sanding, filler-primer and paint produce genuinely smooth, display-grade surfaces — see the matte bust above. It's labour, not magic, which is why finish level drives the price.

Can you match my brand colour exactly?

Yes — bring a colour code, a physical sample or even a photo, and we mix and test-match before committing to the part.

Are painted parts durable outdoors?

With the right stack, yes: UV-stable paints over ASA or sealed PETG, plus protective clear-coats, are built for the UAE climate.

How long does finishing add to a job?

From 30 minutes for a quick prime to several hours per part for full display finishes — batches run in parallel with printing wherever possible, so calendar impact stays small.
